Cleaning a Dog Crate
Friday, February 17, 2012@ 6:16 PM
Anyone who has ever housebroken a puppy or traveled with a pet knows how indispensible a portable dog crate can be; however, if you don’t know how to properly clean a crate then the smell can become unbearable. One common mistake owners make is using ammonia based cleaner. This is a big no-no. Puppy urine is ammonia based, so if they smell the ammonia cleaner then they may mistakenly believe that their crate is the appropriate place to relieve themselves.
Instead of ammonia based cleaner, try using diluted bleach and water. Just make sure that you are outside or in a well ventilated area. You will also want to wear rubber gloves to protect your skin. Thoroughly rinse the crate afterward and then allow it to air dry in the sun.
